In October 2022, I started a GoFundMe as a retired military officer to help my Afghanistan interpreter and his family. Finally, money started coming into the account and I told them I will be sending money soon.
I followed the instructions of the site and attempted to withdraw funds. They paused the withdrawal and never explained why? I started contacting them by email with a response from them saying someone will get with you in 3-5 days. They told me at least 8 times to submit an overview of what the funds were for.
I broke down the use of funds numbering each use in detail. They never responded. I contacted my Congressman's Washington DC office for help with a license that GoFundMe claimed I needed. I got the licenses and attached them over 7 times, without a response.
I have contacted an attorney for help. My experience has been terrible, so I would never use or recommend them. Perhaps ok for Americans, but, not for international emergency situations.
They are non-responsive. Furthermore, they continued to pretend that a transfer bank account was not attached to the account.
User's recommendation: Use another platform with contact details.
Monetary Loss: $2055.
Preferred solution: Money released to be sent to the family..
GoFundMe Pros: Public.
GoFundMe Cons: Non-responsive, No phone contact, Terrible customer service.
